New Member - Possibly buying 280z on Saturday - Questions on what to look for...
Hello everyone!
I bought a 1976 280z 2+2 in 1986 when I was in the U.S. Air Force stationed in Fairbanks, Alaska. I sold that car in 1990...long story for another day. Anyways, my son is almost 18 and we are going to go look at a 1976 Datsun 280z 2+2 for him on Saturday. The car looks great in the pictures as they always do, but I would like to get some pointers from the experts before I go look at this car on Saturday.
1. Car has 108,000 on the original motor - I cannot seem to find the service intervals for the car, like when should the timing chain be changed? What maintenance should have been up to this point? I remember adjusting the valves every so often...
2. Where should I look for signs of rust and rot?
3. What else should a novice look for and ask about?
I know my Chevy's, but I cannot remember too much about my Z...Any help would be greatly appreciated!!!
Thanks,
camaro-guy
