Mesh Grills.

Hey People, I am wanting to make a new custom front grille for my Z because the grill currently is bent from an accident from a previous owner. I went to my local Hardware but the Mesh was too thin and not suitable does anyone know the thickness or specifications of the kind of mesh they use on the EVO 6's I like that thick black mesh they have around the front of the car very tuff.
Thanks Fellas,

Hi all
hmmm never thought of mesh..sounds neat. You might wanna try your hardware store believe it not they have a plastic mesh for like gutter covers or something..(I have some here lemme go see if I can find it...but anyways its little 1/4" sqaures and is in black.
My thoughts for a custom grill is to get some 1/8" - 1/4" aluminum tubing ( like I used in my fuel lines...polishes nice and is @$.30 a foot) I figured I could use the old grill fram or else I was thinking you could get the rails that hold up garage door openers and then run the tubes through there and then you could mount it to the sides at the same time...The tubing bends so easily so it is not hard to get the right bends on it, It's ultra light so your not adding mor than a couple of pounds if that, and it also kinda resembles the new Z's grill......
Anyways just thought I'd share my idea incase anyone is interested......

All the black mesh I have seen in hardware stores is plastic, but I have seen people use the aluminium ? gutter guard for this very purpose. Very lightweight, but like you say, may bend too easily.

$144.95 from Courtesy Nissan - now listed as NLA :-(
$150 from Malvern Racing (e-mail quote in September).

I should have bought one when they were still available....

The Fairlady grill is a rectangle frame with chicken wire in the middle. I have one on my Fairlady and I don't really think it is that nice.

I still think the idea of covering the original frame with aluminum tubing is best. Here is a nice grill attached...
