I felt really bad when I saw this on hybridz.

I hope you can find it through the lost car registry.

Even though my 280zx is now out of commission I think I might keep her so I can fix her in the future since she was my first z.

Thanks,
She was my "first" too!

Since you have the VIN, do a CARFAX on it... then you will know the location of the car.

i have your car. at the bottom of a well!!!! jk but call that nissan hotline. they told me where my car was bought and stuff. so if the new owner has called them then they might tell you. but you might need to trick them. it's probably against regulations for them. the number is in some thread on this site. i forget where. but you might need to call and act like the present owner, and then see if they will tell you where you live!

If the car has ever been registered in the USA, it should work. A carfax shows the maintenance and registration history of the car. You can run the VIN and find in what state (and usually city) the car was last registered in. I've had a check done on several of my cars (both BMW's and my 280zx).

I think Carfax only work on newer cars with 17 digit serial numbers. I could be wrong. So, I should check myself...

bump!
Called the DMV, but no help. Posted on Atl. Craigslist.

Yes. You will have to do the detective work yourself, it will not work on VIN's like my Z with only 12 digits. 1981 standardized that, and searches will only offer a search on vehicles newer than that. Sucks really.

Best of luck finding the car. I am currently searching for my Dad's 1971 Plymouth Roadrunner.. It's not always easy, but I think we can do it.
