leaking water pump

leaking water pump

I think my water pump is leaking so when i pull it off can i use red rtv as a sealent or should i get a new factory gasket?

3rd on that... the gasket is about $2 from AutoZone or free with a new water pump.

well, you should all check my other thread, i wish a leaking water pump was the worst of my leaks....

You sure it's the gasket, and not the spindle/bearing going bad? Not to cheer for the worst case or anything, I've just seen a number of the stock pumps go bad that way and was just wondering.

Water pumps generally aren't even that expensive that if you have it off you might be better off just replacing it.

i pulled it off and the blades inside it looked great. I sanded down the original gasket pieces and rtv'd them. It no longer leaks and works like a dream.
