L28 into 73 240Z (fuel tank question)
I found out that I will need to install a fuel return line for the EFI, will it be easier to install the 280Z tank or just modify my tank to accept a return line?
Any other tips on the fuel system- fuel pumps would be great! Thanks in advance, kevin |
Re: L28 into 73 240Z (fuel tank question)
gotta have the fi tank. fuel line diameter is different, and therefore so are the outlet "tits" on the tank itself. so, to prevent fuel starvation you need to update the tank... here's the catch. you need one from a 75 or 76 since after that they redesigned the rearend just enough to make the later tanks incompatible. (punks.) i'm going through the same bull$#@! pitting a 280zx turbo engine in my 260. but it's worth it....you couldn't pay me enough to deal with frickin' carbs anymore.

Re: L28 into 73 240Z (fuel tank question)
I guess I got lucky, my donor car happens to be a 76(NA) and the car it's going into is a 73. I guess I am more of a EFI person to! carbs are Bu!@# sh#@!
Will I need to run larger lines back to the tank? Thanks,Kevin |
Re: L28 into 73 240Z (fuel tank question)
y'know, i don't have the tank yet, so i'm not sure.... i'm just going to base it on the inlet/outlets of the tank. if the "tit" is bigger, the hose should be too.

Re: L28 into 73 240Z (fuel tank question)
I ran an L28 w/ FI in my '71 for about 6 months w/ the stock links and an EFI pump at the tank---- stock tank too...

Re: L28 into 73 240Z (fuel tank question)
steve.... would the stock tank and lines work in a turbo car? he fuel pump i know has to change, but if i don't have to deal with dropping that tank again, i'd be loving life : )! you mentioned yours was a non-turbo, so would that make a difference?

Re: L28 into 73 240Z (fuel tank question)
I dont know about the OE tank and lines w/ a turbo, but I'd definetely try it before pulling the tank! if you have no problems then dont worry about it--- worst case it cuts out at high rpms--- you drive it a while and replace the tank when you get a chance--- know what i mean?

depends on your plan for the turbo if you are going to run standard boost and not drive it hard you should be ok but otherwise....

Hey Steve,
Did you run a return line back to the tank with your EFI swap? Also, did you use a charcoal canister? Kevin |
Re: L28 into 73 240Z (fuel tank question)
I used the OE '71 return line as well as the supply line, and no I didn't use a charcoal canister.
