Just bought a 240Z *PICS*

EDIT:PICS DOWN A FEW POSTS

I've been itching for a Z as well as a 2nd car to tinker around with for a while. One of my buddies had a 79 280ZX in poor condition to say the least but I didnt have the money to sink into it at the time (so I convinced another one of my buddies to buy it :038: ). Anyway, I worked on that car to get it running (needed a new starter, battery, and some vac lines and now it runs like a champ with the exception of puking some carbon still when you get on the gas hard. I also built the motor in my '61 Falcon from the block out so the mechanical issues should be next to nothing for me, especially since this will be my 3rd I-6 I've played with.

This car is a '73 in pretty decent shape. Owner bought it 20+ years ago and it was going to be a V8 car :paranoid: luckily that didnt come through so its been sitting for around 10, always covered my either a garage or a shelter. It has some major underbody rust issues, which I think I'm going to attempt to tackle. Time to man up and buy a welder I guess...

But anyway my plans are to put in all new floorpans if it needs it, fix the frame damage and weld in subframe connectors, get it back to running condition (he says he thinks that either the oil pump was going out or the timing chain broke, causing him to park it), and I also want to try that $50 Rustoleum paint job the internet has been raving about. I'm not particularly interested in keeping this car, but if things pan out well I would consider using it as my college DD. That would be sweeeeet.

Basically, expect regular questions about this topic because I'm a newbie at Z's and definitely a noobie at body work. Should have pictures by Saturday.

Oh and thanks for your future cooperation :111:

Buy yourself some books on the Z, auto body repair (restoration), and welding. It's not simple tho... so don't expect it to be easy. :D

highvolkage 10-15-2007 03:24 AM

yeah they were camera phone pics, couldnt find my camera. there is a little "major" rust on the left rear quarter, right around the fender flare. i'm using this project as an excuse to learn how to weld so thats alright with me

I'd love it if you would take pictures of your attempt at the $50 job!
I will be doing mine the same way after I get the bushings in my rear replaced. The job will look just as good as the amount of prep that you put into the surface :)

duowing 11-17-2007 12:49 AM

Yeah, where do you live? I'm in Cleveland.

in english please?

and this has to do with the thread.... how?

and also, dont... seems you have to many Z's than you know what to do with. sell some before you get more otherwise they are going to sit just liek they are at the "restore shop"

highvolkage 11-21-2007 11:27 AM

im from cinci

i'll take more pics of the roll on when i start again (got too cold for paint to cure)

and the hood is actually pretty beat, i'm pretty sure its not the original hood either. there is some rust thru in one corner, a lot of dings and some scrape looking dents in it.
