Intake manifold modifications

Well this is tomorrows project. :) I just got my 240sx throttle body, so I am going to blend the transition from the new (much larger) throttle body, into the intake manifold. I was also planning on grinding off all the "crap" on top of the intake. (its a 82 intake, btw) As I am going with SDS and I don't really need much in the way of fittings....

So the plan was to grind off the linkage towers (going to use a cable linkage) as well as the cold start injector mount, EGR stuff, etc. and then weld up the holes, grind until smooth, and polish the heck out of the thing.

I'm hoping someone here can tell me some do's/donts for this... What should I watch out for, etc?

Thanks in advance...

Do it and don't forget to tell us how it turns out....:)

Re: do's/donts

Well I got started. I spent about 3 hours working on it, and things are going well.

I first port matched my new 240sx throttle body to the smaller hole in the intake. Let me tell you, that 240sx one is HUGE in comparison to the 280zxt one. 2.5" as opposed to 2" in diameter.

Took off 1 linkage tower, EGR, about 10-15 bolt holes (for heat shielding) and a bunch of extra vacuum fittings that I won't need. (I left myself with 3 vacuum ports, for boost gauge, wastegate (potentially) and MAP sensor)

Still to remove is the last tower, and a couple more holes... this is a big job and a messy one!!! I hope the results once its in the engine bay are worth it.

I still may op out instead of polishing it, and just have it powdercoated instead. Definately needs to be hottanked/steam cleaned after all this grinding/sanding/filing though.
