i need infomation
what is the best year and make for a datsun like 280zx 300 which one because in 4 months when i turn 18 i am getting one and i want one with some ***** so i can go out and kick my friends asses because they think they are all that because they can kick my butt in my pontiac sunbird which is a P.O.S. i have wanted a datuns since i was 10 and i cant wait to get one and when i do i want to give it all the ***** i can because having [censored] vehicles gets really old so if any one can give me a place to get a car less than $1000 i would appreciate it and some one to tell me what to do to give it some ***** i live in NY there is a 280 zx body down the road which i am going to see if i can buy but it has no motor or tranny so if any one could letme know of a motor that would replace the one it dont have like a chevy motor what ever would fit because it would be easier to get one of those than a datsun 280zx motor

From the sounds of things your trying to do this on a budget.
First thing to realize is that there are a lot of things other than just motors and transmissions and modifications to look at when buying your first Z. These are wonderful cars, but have a tendency (especially up north due to the horrible winter weather road treatments), to develop serious cases of the metal cancer (AKA RUST!!!!) Look at every post you can find on this site to build a list of the primary trouble areas to look for in this area as well as some others I've seen mentioned.
As far as the one down the street with no motor or tranny, if the body and rust conditions are in good shape, and it has an interior condition you can live with (because it seems to be becoming an increasingly harder problem to find replacement interior components) then I would suggest calling your local salvage and junk yards to locate a motor and tranny and see what you can come up with there.

Putting a Chevy V8 in there would be good for some "*****" But you aren't going to do any of this for $1000. For that money, the best you'll find is a 280zx n/a that runs and has some body damage. or maybe a 280Z.
You can probably find a decent 280zx turbo for $2000 or more, but I hear Datsuns in general are rare on the East coast. In that case, get a cheap 280zx body and put in a V8 engine later when you have a little more money. There are kits that you can buy with instructions on how to swap in the V8 and it comes with your custom engine mounts for a fairly simple job in comparison to figuring it all out on your own. Now, most likely you'll be using a carburator on that V8, so you'll never pass emissions for a 1981-83 280zx. I hope you live in an area that doesn't deal with emsission testing.

look for a 240. being patient is the key. I found my 71 240 about 3 months ago with original rebuilt l24 and 280 5speed tran for $1300 from the original owner. And she runs like a dream. Just keep an eye and a ear out everywhere you go. I'm sure something will pop up withn budget.
