yes, the best way to get a feel for the car you want to buy is to drive replica in a video game.

I sput out my acura and spilled milk on my sofa

ha ha, auxilary's got a point. The zg is the spec, and if i recall correctly it is the one with flares and g-nose. There were two specs of 240z's were there not? the zg and something else.

Auxillary,
just wondering...which is quicker: your neon or your 240? My brother had an R/T and it was really impressive for a 4 banger. Of course he had pullies, Iceman, header, & Mopar ECU. Nice car reguardless. :-)

auxilary Dec 2, 2002 09:45 PM

Re: i found a 240z in a video game.

right now? the neon. and it has exact same motor mods your brother had. Stock for stock, I'd say the neon would still be quicker. I ran 15.7 with intake only on stock tires, and 15.6 with ecu added.

In Z's defense, for shits and giggles i ran my buddy on the fwy in the Z. He was in a 1st gen acura integra ls, 1.8L 4 banger non-vtec block. Stayed dead even with him from 55mph to 100.

Blink the 240zg just means it's got the Gnose ,flared arches, rear wing, and mirrors upfront on the front wings or fenders. It was a special edition of the Z mainly available in Japan. The other spec of Z was the 432R (4 valves 3 Carbies 2 Cams). It was a Z with a S20 Not SR20 engine which was a twin cam straight 6 2.0L engine that produced 160hp and in racing form would rev to around 9000rpm :-). Loki is right about the Real Nissan Driving simulator it's got a Z in it. I have a copy it's only around 7mb I'm wondering if I could upload it somewhere for you guys when I find it??? Anyone interested.

Re: i found a 240z in a video game.

blink--that about right--- they're about that "slow" in real life...stock that is.... its not really that slow in the game its just if you compare it to the other faster cars like the unisia jecs and the escudo pikes--- yikes!

I built up my 240zg in gran turismo 2 with everything avalable...inluding the bore/stroke up--- and i could out-accelerate all the muscle cars in the muscle car series--and TOTALLY out-handle them (NO way a Z suped up could out-accelerate any respectable muscle car!)

Another game with a 240Z is Forza Motorsports on Xbox. I got my blue Z up to like 900hp and a top speed over 200mph, lol. Gotta love videogames!

alanq64 Jan 26, 2006 09:55 AM

GT4 has the 240z in it also. Better graphics than GT2 by far.

Forza Motorsport has the 240Z.... You can mod it and change engines...
I dont think you could compare the "feel" of these video Games to real life.....

I am a NASA, SCCA solo driver.... HPDE and time trials... I have tracked a 1972 240Z for years... Virginia Int Raceway, Rockingham NC motorspeedway(banks), Roebling Road, Road Atlanta, Sebring, Carolina Motorsports Park etc... I have driven dozens of different sports cars .. new and old...and I am a video game/simulation fan....

There is nothing like driving a well prepared car on track at speed.... It will give you an entirely different perspective on how well you drive and how well you know your car...
================================================== ========
A stock 240Z is not up to being much fun on track...
There is virtually no adjustment in the suspension...(front TOE only.
stock tires are too narrow
front brakes are far outmatched by todays standards...
rear drums cool well but have poor modulation and issues with heat distortion
The body roll is excessive by todays performance standards
weight transfer front to rear is excessive compared to modern sports cars.
================================================== ========

but a well prepared 240Z is able to hang with some pretty expensive and sophisticated modern sports cars... and you dont have to spend a fortune to prepare and run a 240Z on track...

a few good points for the 240Z............

stock engines are powerful, reliable, and long legged (7KRPM redline)

the 240Z is LIGHT>>> very light by todays standards... it will out corner and out brake modern corvettes... but modern cars have HUGE HP numbers to get up to speed...They will leave you in the straights..

The 240Z suspension can be tweaked for realatively cheap...
add negative camber, TOE out front, TOE in rear, lower, increase spring rates, add rear swaybar, improve front swaybar, increase damping with new strut cartridges.... etc.

I have hours of in car video of my car(240Z) passing all types of sports cars... even Ferraris and a yellow 1988 Lambo C2000... late model Vettes leave me rapidly in a straight... but my lap times are better... eventually they will get flagged if they dont let me by...

I had one dude(C5 vette) in my way for 3 sessions at VIR.. he had Hoosier slicks and a fairly well prepared chassis... I rode his bumper for 2/3rds of VIR full course every lap... then he would pull away on the uphill back straight... I would catch him again after the next turn... He got soo frustrated with getting flagged constantly that he finally ended up cooking his brakes and tires by the end of the first day... I didnt have to worry about him on sunday.

This is where video games fail to simulate real life.... A lot of guys in HPDE/TT events are trying to maximize their fun per dollar spent.... The big powerful cars can be driven incredibly fast.... but they BURN through brakes and tires soo fast that no one can afford to go all out on track for very long....
I can drive the 240Z at 9/10ths of its capability for HOURS... and I still get 2 weekends out of a set of race tires and brake pads.... My TT times are still very good... considering I run full bore all the time and the big cars run all out only for the Time Trials....
