I am back
on monday I took out the gas tank and will have the tank rebuilt
but now when I fix the gas tank the z will run good
but then I wont' be able to stop. The problem is that it will cost about $750 to redo the brakes. Does the rear disc brake conversion need any custom manufacturing for the conversion? what does it include? what do I need to get for the conversion? tools?

rear brake conversion
Motor sport auto has a new kit that gives you aluminum mounting brackets that bolt on for $280. You then need Maxima rotors, calipers and pads to compete the conversion. Good news is stock hand brake will work with this set up but lots of $$ for all the stuff.
My opion - spend the money on upgrading the front calipers to toyota 4 pistion calipers and cross drilled rotors. That is where 90% of your whoa power comes from.

cool
I am going to redo the brakes after I do the gas tank. what should I do about the rear maxima discs (junkyard or new) what year? and what for the front? what calipers and year model? I want stuff that can run cool for racing but still be inexpensive. And where can I get steel braided lines for my z post conversion. A local shop? or an internet provider?
thanx
tell me more about brakes and were I can get it cheap

Brakes conversion
I did do the front piston / rotor upgrade from MSA which for all new parts including braided stainless hoses was around $500. It is really slick and bolts right on. Also replaced front bearings & seals in the process. If you want to retain stock splash guards you have to trim to fit around new (larger) toyota 4X4 calipers but not much. I left them off for better cooling.
Call MSA and they can tell you all about the rear upgrades and year for the Maxima components. www.zparts.com is the website and tel is 800-633-6331.

As for the rear conversion, doesn't the caliper mounting bracket on the Maxmia unbolt from the hub? I think you can use that part as your mounting bracket on the rear of the Z.
Get a 1982-84 Maxima rear brake setup complete. The calipers themselves are the same as the rear of a 1982-83 280ZX. The ZX hub is one-piece where the Maxima has a separate bracket on there...
