and im trying to say this.

can i use rims with a +40 offset on my 78 280? or will they stick out? i dont really like any of the "280 specific" rims. but they all have +0 offset. and i like some of the sciion xb rims, and they have +40 offset rims, and i just want to know if theyll work. thanks. and sorry for that thing above this, i dont know why i keep getting that

If you want to use + offset wheels, you need wheel adapters: http://www.modern-motorsports.com/ca...hp?cPath=57_56

It means the mounting face of the wheel is 40mm past center. The wheel will hit the springs. You would need adaptors 40mm thick just to get even again. If the wheels are wider you will have to add half to inside and outside. MSA sells some nice wheels that don't require adaptors or spacers.

thanks for the heads up.

and i cant just use some spacers that are 40mm thick? i have to buy some 215 dollar adaptors? i know it changes the spacing from 4x114.3 to 4x100. but most of the wheels i was looking at have both the 4x114.3 and 4x100 bolts pattern on it already.

For me, I don't trust spacers at 100+ mph. Also I think the four extra holes look cheesey. There is a guy on eBay selling 16" wheels that will fit our cars without spacers and they look really nice for under $300. Go here-

You could, but then you'd have no threads left on the studs for the lugs to screw on. :D

They have more than they used to. There aren't tons of manufacturers producing 4 lug 0 offset wheels anymore (especially since 99% of their sales goes to Honduh Civic ricers), but they are making a comeback. MSA sells a few diff sets of Sportmax wheels, like these: http://www.thezstore.com/page/TZS/PROD/25-1188 which would give a classier look than the overly used honda "star" wheels.

Like Theramz said... just gotta shop around.

theramz 10-08-2009 10:02 AM

Yeah those are real nice but thefront bearing cap showing through looks cheap.
I made my own +25mm spacers and got like new 17"s with tires for $500. Next car I will make the 5 lug conversion and then I will be able to get any dia or width I want.

You can get those same exact sportmax wheels for like $250 less on ebay.

true that. and if i had to get some wheels without spacers id just get those. there the nicest looking out there that just bolt right on to 280s IMO.

buy longer studs? then you might have flexing issues tho, correct? hmph. and what you said about the 4 lugs all being made for hondas makes sence too.

thanks for all the input everyone. i just gotta look aroundd more i guess!
