Hello Zdriver.com
My name is Justin. I have a 1977 280 z, the grandmother of Z cars with the 2.8l inline 6 cylinder engine. But alas! This is no ordinary engine, one of the previous owners removed the entire EFI(electronic Fuel Injection) system and replaced it with original dual SU carbs. Is this a normal thing, and if so what kind of fun can i have with this motor? Much abliged for any answers that come from the fellow members. Good DayZ!!!

Yes switching to SU's is quite common. Usually done when the FI system is giving the owner big time problems. Its an easy cheap fix, and easily worked on by shadetree mechanics..
They are excellent carbs.. I too ran them on my 280 for a couple of years. Nice carbs.. easy to tune..very simple.. few parts..
Leave them on, they will serve you just fine.
If ya want some more power, YES there is a ton of mods you can do... Cheap hp...no... you can probably get an extra 20hp with under $500.00 in parts...Theses engines have lots of potential though if you have the $$$$.
