headlights?
is there any way to rig the headlights to a cutoff switch so I can bypass my main switch untill i can get a replacement? I want to drive her but no lights no drive :(
are you familar with how a relay is set up? You can just run one relay and hook the activation wire to power from your running lights. Then the main power out of the relay would connect to your two low beams. That'll work.
running lights on, all lights go on. :D |
not really plus i need to find the running lights wire
you would do all this in the engine compartment. Just take a splice off of one of your front side marker lights. That would activate the relay.
I think we had a thread on relays recently... where is that brother of mine with the links??? |
dunno??? need him asap!!!
I wired up my hid headlights using a relay, but still used my stock switch.
So the switch works fine to turn on the side markers, but doesn't work for the headlights? |
You're going to cut up your harness for a quick fix? Damn dude, I wouldn't.
no the only lights that come on are my turn signals and my brakes, oh and hazzards. I don't want to cut into it but i need it to drive to work now that i live farther away. My wife has a job interviewso i need mine asap.
One good thing though is that my factory clock still works, and the car has 66k original miles |

To clarify... you said brake lights turn on.... not the tail lights right? |
correct when i hit the brakes the lights do come on. no rear running lights though. Side markers are going to get shaved off as soon as I can afford it.
Have you taken apart the switch to see what the prob is / see if it's even the switch?
I TOOK IT OFF AND WHEN I MOVE IT IT DONES NOT LOOK LIKE ITS MOVING AT ALL INSIDE. THE WIPER FUNCTION WORKS THOUGH. i CHECKED ALL OF THE FUSES AND FUSABLE LINKS.
On related news...I need to figure out how to rig up a high beam switch...anyone done it etc?
No idea... hmmm i wish my switch from my 79 would fit the 78... lol :(

http://i91.photobucket.com/albums/k3...ITCHLAYOUT.jpg ^^^ requires a couple more wires, but yes... simple fix. |
new update!!!
got home and was undoing the switch to clean it and i got the running lights to work!!! all work now but the headlights... on the plus side i can get a new switch from autozone for $40 |
did you run a search? I posted a fix for the common 'headlights don't work' problem... and pics of the switch contact behind the steering wheel. It could be that.
I just tried searching for a high beam solution as mine dont work at the mo...I got everything under the sun...whats up with this search?
yeah the search function needs to be updated for easier use.
Oh well, anyone know off the top of their head what colour wire etc runs the high beams on the 260Z
Hmmm No Idea... I Think My Issue Now Is My Head Lights Are Burnt Out. I'll Take The Bulbs From My 79 And See If Thats It.
try running new wires too...the Zeds wiring was less than stellar
Yeah I Hear Ya On That. I'll Swap Out The Bulbs To See If That Works. If Not The Fun Of Running Wires, Oh Joy!
all right new update... Got all of the running lights to work minus one burnt out sde marker light. Head lights are still a no go and cant seem to find the issue... Man I hate wiring, Wish there was an easier way to do this. I don't want to take it to a shop for them to fix it cause they would charge me a hell of a lot.
