Good buy?

Hello all new here to the forums and I'm looking to buy a 240z. Let me first start out by saying that I do have mechanical knowledge, specifically with Nissan. I've seen that 240z's have highly amount of rust. With that being said I by any mean have no knowledge with welding. So given that should I even consider this car? Or is it doable for an amateur?

There is the car let me know what I should do. I'm looking at a DD build, trying to restore it. Should I go for it? Thanks.

Welcome to ZDriver!

$900 is a good buy for a 240z... but I'd dicker with them down a few bills. :) Looks like someone has mix and matched lots of parts, so just be prepared for a lot of surprises.

Do you think it's a good buy even though it has rust that is in dire need of repair? I also have no welding knowledge but I do have a friend who knows how to weld.

If I were to pick it up what would I need to do first? Also if you look at the rust what do you call that area the rust is in? What would I need to do to fix that rust area? Remove that entire part? I don't want to waste money if I need to replace the entire car. Thanks.

The two door entries are called " rocker panels " you can buy those new . Or you can try and find some body who is cutting up a parts car. You should look at rear tire well and frame rail in the engine compartment and along the bottom of car and dog leg area. Which is just in front of rear tire that flows up into fender lip

From looking at pictures can you tell if there is rust in the floorboards? To me it looks like it, or it probably is just dirty.

Anyone thinks it has rust?

You can see the trailer floor through the car floor. Even if it had a 1" rust hole in the rocker panel, and that is all you see, guaranteed it would have rust elsewhere. This one is full of holes, good luck. It would be nice if you could weld, then you can do it yourself. "Friends" tend to get bored/annoyed/irritated eventually, and with that many holes in it, your friend would have to get tied up with it for months on end, assuming he has a regular job.

I started a restoration with one that looked kind of like that. Rust was the main issue as its interior and motor were in reasonable shape (I didn't say good).

As I dug into it, things got worse and worse. I decided the floors had to be completely replaced. Since new floor pans are available, I thought that would be a good way to go.

Before I purchased the floors, I kept digging. I found that cleaning up the suspension members would have left very little amounts of good metal.

I decided to look for a parts car. I found one (for $900 believe it or not). As I dug through that, it turned out the parts car was in better shape than my original. They've been swapped.

You can read the details of my on-going experience on the forum here: https://www.zdriver.com/forums/240z-...project-37922/

IMHO, this car on Craigs List is no more than a parts car. Though you might be able to make a profit by purchasing it and reselling cleaned up good parts.
