Fuel Injection VS British SU's

Hey Fellas, I have an L28 engine in my 260z which is currently running British Su's off a 240z. I have been told that if I convert to fuel injection I will loose HP is this true?? I want to fit an electronic dizzy and fuel injection system because it will save me tuning the SU's every so often.
There is a junk collector near my place who collects cars and many other foreign objects he owns an old 78' Skyline I think that's the year. Anyway it has an electronic distributor and Fuel injection system. The engine however is L24 like the 240z's. If I was to buy the fuel injection system would it work on an L28 or would it lean out???
Thanks Fellas,

Spend your money on a set of Z Therapy SU carbs and a pertronix ignitor for the dist http://www.pertronix.com/ . I have gone the injection rout before, and while it did perform much better than my stock motor, I lost top end HP

Re: Fuel Injection VS British SU's

What about putting the injection from my 280z parts car on my 70 240z? I can't afford to go out and buy a lot of expensive parts right now. I am looking for good drivability as my girlfriend will end up using this car as her daily driver.

Also, any thoughts on changing from the original 4-speed to a later model 5 speed and tranny and year recommendations.

Thanks.

Re: Fuel Injection VS British SU's

Using the injection from a 280 will work for great drivability, depending on what year 280. 75 or 76 is prefered (simpler due to less smog stuff) But keep in mind that we are talking about an injection system that is 20yrs old. Weigh this...if you have to replace all the injectors(not likely but possible) cost around 600-700 bucks (injectors seals etc). Z-Therapy SU cost less, and there is no "conversion factor" Or get the Z-therapy rebuild kit, The SU carb when set up right will outperform stock injection on a stock motor, and is more reliable (no elec to break). The pertronix ignitor simply replaces the points with a magnet and pickup system and retails for around 100bucks. Best investment I ever made on any Z! Now for tranny / diff combos....all depends on what you want to do with the car. Personally, I feel that the 4sp with a 3:54 R180 will suit most people...you will lose some top-end, but acell will be awesome. This is the setup most hardcore Z auto-x use. Road racers use varying diffs ratios depend on the track configuraton. I personnally do not like using the R-200 unless I am making alot of HP (over 300). The R-180 will take that much and more and it weighs less. Same with the 5sp tranny....weight. Your Z is A 70 right, get the 4sp from a 72 and up...preferably 74..and the rearend from an Auto 240(R-180 3:54)...you will not be dissapointed. Enough of my ramblings for now...if you decide to go the injection rout....I will be glad to be of service with advice...been there done that....

Thanks Russell..

I appreciate that. You gave me just what I needed to hear. Now I gotta get the cars home and figure out what I have and which way to go... I'm sure I will be in touch...
