Electric Fans
 

Hiya all,

I've decided to convert to a electric fan, my Z isn't quite overheating, but summer is pretty much here with the hot weather in cali;) So does anyone have any set ups to recommend. I've heard a few aftermarket ones like Flex-alite and some junkyard cars like 1st Gen RX-7, Ford Taurus, Sentra's and so on. If anyone can recommend a good set up with the temp sensor as well because I dont feel like turning a switch on all the time;) Oh yah I'm looking for a puller set up as I will be removing my old stock 240Z fan;)

I am using the unit out of the MSA catalogue. It fits perfectly against the radiator as a puller unit, and comes with all the sensors and wiring...it uses a probe that you just push into the rad fins...quite ingenious....I have mine mounted on the passenger side and the motor shell is quite close to one of the pullys, cant remember which one, but there seems to be enough clearance, I have new motor mounts so I am not worried about it...i did have it flush with the drivers side but decided I did not want hot air blowing right onto my carbs...I may change to a griffin rad anf a smaller fan unit and set it up as a pusher later on but for now am pleased with the performance.

I bought my elec fan setup from AutoZone, total price was around $80-$90 with thermostatic switch. Their kit looks identical to the fan sold by Motorsports right down to the neat attachment clips. So far so good here in the AZ desert. Let me know if you would like pictures.

that's very clever, I like that.

personally my setup is a flex fan, and a pushing electric fan, which turns on when the key is in the "ON" position.

never overheats!!!

can someone tell me why its not recommended to do this? I assume its not, being that everyones talkin about temp sensors....

i bought two from the local parts store 16", and one is on the back and one is on the front pushing and pulling. the little sensor i also bought, which was about 17 dollars. the fans cost me 110. i use a 160 degree tstat in the summer and my Z stays nice and cool even in stop and go traffic.

watch out here comes my Z V8 powered and ready to roar
