ECCS woes

My '77 280 has '82ZXT motor with stock ECCS. I have had problems with a bad fuel pump control unit. It took a long time to diagnose and then find one to replace it. It ran well for a year, but now I'm having more trouble again. Could be the same problem or related: When I step on the gas, the fuel meter goes all the way to lean, and the engine spits.

I'm about ready to give up on this old factory system, and am considering going to an aftermarket system like the SDS or others. Please recommend a system that can be installed and tuned without extensive tuning experience and chassis dynos. What works, and is still reasonable for its cost.

Re: ECCS woes

Have you checked all your boots and vacum hoses? Maybe a clamp came loose coming off the turbo causing a big air leak. After replacing my turbo, it ran well for a couple months. Then it started running lean. Turned out the double clamp coming off the turbo came loose. After that double check all your wiring connections.

Daryl:

I'll check the boot between afm and turbo.

Thanks
