Correct Gas Mileage?

I have a 1973 240Z with dual Webers. I was wondering what kind of gas mileage I should be getting? I only have 40 miles on this tank of gas and am already at half full (or half empty). This doesn't seem right. This is my first Z and I just bought it a few weeks ago so I am still getting used to it. Is there anything I can do to improve gas mileage? Thanks!

I am not running webbers but my SUs are giving me 23 MPG on a stock L-24 with over 100K miles on it and a automatic tranny. That's with about 1/3rd city driving.

i would bet youre guage is reading off. its not that big a deal once you learn how to interpret what your guage tells you, but try filling the tank up when it reads half a tank. i bet twenty bucks (which no longer buys a tank of gas--sigh) that your fill up at "half a tank" is alot less than the seven or eight gallons it should be

Thanks for that post. That brings up another question. How many gallons should my tank hold? (1973 240z)

Thanks!

Well, I just filled it up again with 11.166 gallons with 141 miles on the tank. that gives me...(141 / 11.166) = 12.6 MPG right? Looks like, from other people's posts that I should be getting between 20 - 23. Does anybody have any ideas what could be causing the problem? I took apart both carbs (Webers) and cleaned them out but that didn't seem to help much. Any ideas? Thanks for your help!
