Convertable Z's ????
Do any of you know anything about the 98 1978 Z's that were made into convertables? I have seen one. It was at least 8 years ago. Then about 3 weeks ago I was driving my boss Maita & seen another convertable Z. Now my heart is set on making my next Z on the road convertable. About the only thing stopping me is the specs. I have searched the internet but came up empty.

There us to be a company in LA that specialzed in making convertible Zs. I saw one in Vegas about 12 years ago and it was done nice. You could check with MSA and see if they have any ideas.
Good Luck.
P.S. Make sure when you do it that you do all the extra bracing to strengthen the body for the lack of suport from the roof.

Convertable Z's
I've been told there is a company in Florida that build 98 of them right off the assy. line in 1978. I belive the name was Griffith Motor Sports. Who is MSA??? As far as doing it right, Beleive me It's gonna be done right or not at all. At least I have a couple of cars to practice on.
Convertibles
I don't know anything about any Z's being converted directly off the line in 78, but I'm sure it could have happened. Anything that has happened in hte last 10 years or so, I think I'm on top of. The companies off the top of my head that have done convertibles, or offered kits, in the last decade are ZTherapy, Hollywood Motorsports, and Origin Design. None of these is currently in business doing convertibles at the moment. I think the Origin kit is available but I can't remember through whom. Maybe try VR Engineering, www.ztrix.com, if it isn't there, there is still a lot of nice stuff to look at, and they do convertible Z's as the Ferrari rebody Velo Rossa. The Hollywood motorsports kit is now available through Z Parts, http://www.zparts.com/ads/zspider/zspider_index1.html is the ad. Z Thereapy probably has been the most common over the years, either turnkey, or homebuilt through their video, but the new owners of the business seem to only be into the carbs, and none of the other stuff. The video showed you how to cut the car, remove the roof, and use part of the roof and the hatch to make the rear deck and trunk. There have also been a few kit carsbased upon the Z that were convertibles. The Velo Rossa mention above is very nice, there was also a "kind of" Cobra called the Tomahawk for a while. I think there is onfo on that one at the Z Parts site as well.
