carb/brake/ride quality questions

questions:
1) When I start(try to start) my 240 with 73 carbs, the engine turns, revs up to 1500, and then the rpms fall until it dies. I do this enough times(like 10 or 12) and it will start. If i give it gas while it is revving, the rpms fall faster and then it dies. If i leave the choke in, the car will take longer to start, rev, and die. It takes like 10 tries to get it to start with the choke in as well. Are my carbs out of sync? Too much fuel? Too little?

2)My brake lights went out. I can't figure it out. The fuse looks fine and the bulbs are fine. I strongly doubt that a wire disconnected since it is such a simple system with minimal connections. What can I do to isolate my problem?

3)is there anything wrong with cut suspensioin springs and/or is it possible to get decent ride quality with lowering springs and sways?

4)how restrictive are 73 carbs compared to early SU's?

Any and all help is appreciated.

Re: carb/brake/ride quality questions

ps-i just replaced my starter and i think that is somehow connected with the brake lights going out. Also, my turn signals went out at the exact same time. thanks

Re: carb/brake/ride quality questions

I think my carbs sort of did something like that when i was tuning them, except if i revved it would not die, just settle down and idle properly. I think it was also backfiring through the inlet. It has stopped now that they are tuned properly. My advice would be try to tune the carbs and see if that helps, it can't help. Clean the spark plugs and points etc as well.

I've heard that you are much better off buying lowered springs that chopping them.

Aren't the turn signals, hazards and blinkers all run through the same little thingy(small box?) This could be gone, but don't take my word on that i'm not sure.

hope that helps

whereabouts would i find this "little thingy" for the lights?

what springs will give me decent performance without any bone jarring? Tokico's any good for ride quality?
