Brake pedal

Hi guys. I have a ‘75 280z, my brake pedal takes muscle to sink and get my car to stop. I just changed the Brake Booster but it didnt soften up. How much is the BP supposed to sink in? Mine currently sinks about half way and i have to press it hard to complete a stop.

I'm not sure how far my brake pedal sinks. If you disconnect the vacuum hose to the brake booster and then cap or pinch the hose shut, does your brake pedal force change?

Does it feel the same as before you replaced the booster? It could be a leak in the vacuum line or a bad check valve. Is there a change in the engine speed? Do you hear any hissing noise around the vacuum line?

no change in the Engine speed, but i will be checking the vacuum. The brake pedal became a bit easier but it was still difficult to press it only goes down about half way.

I had a very similar issue on my 240z, took a lot of leg muscle to actual stopping power. I had bled the brakes (again), changed the front pads (again), replaced rear shoes, had rear drums turned. Tested the booster to make sure it was holding vacuum and it was. Finally, bled the master cylinder (front and back)... there was air in the line. I had had someone replace it maybe 3 years ago and didn't realize that was the problem and they hadn't properly bled all the air out. YMMV
