Idk if its the same for S30s but are the engines made to make less HP so the tranny lasts longer?

And how much HP can the stock auto tranny take before it blows up?

I think its the 3 speed no OD, no TC Lockup

I'm not sure what you mean...
Are you asking why the auto 280z puts out less hp than the manual? Auto transmissions lose more hp through the drivetrain than manuals.
Or are you asking why Nissan made a motor w/ less hp? It would likely be due to emissions standards, not anything to do w/ preserving a transmission.

I haven't really heard any high hp auto tranny horror stories. I imagine you could throw 300hp / 300ft/lbs at it as long as you have everything else built right & are using a high stall torque converter.

Ah And I was asking if Nissan made the engine weaker so the trans will last longer, they did it in the Z32s, Im just wondering if they did the same for the early Zs

And Im not putting money into a trans I dont wanna keep lol Im just wondering if it will give out on me before I can get all the 5 speed stuff while I mod the engine

Unless you're building a crazy turbo motor, it will last. It's just crappy driving on the freeway.

lol you should come down here, there's probably 5 or 6 S30's in my local junkyard XD (one's even a 260!)

But yea, I doubt they're the same trans, but I've heard that the auto that came in the 280ZX Turbo's is actually stronger than the T5, but that's just what I've heard...
