Aussie 280ZX

I've seen and had a play with an '81 280ZX, it's had an engine rebuild and good respray recently, drives beautifully, but with shoddy interior and slight crack in dash. Question is, and i'm especially asking iskteh and other aussies, does $6200 sound fair for the limited description i've provided? Or if i haven't given enough info, what would an 81 280ZX need to have to be worth $6k? Will the interior be a particularly expensive job? If anyone actually lives in WA i'd love to have a chat before i bought my first Z.

I'd appreciate any reply, thanks.

Re: Aussie 280ZX

Dealer sale or private? Seems high for a private sale and about right for a dealer. Market value according to my (ex) insurance company is about $5500 and they base stuff on dealer pricing.

Theres a guy in melbourne been trying to sell an original 81 (no rebuild/respray/custom leather int.) for 2250 for a little while - I'll find you a URL in the morning as he has some images on a website and you can do a quick comparison.

Probably not enough info to say for sure (how is the suspension? any rust? any repair work hidden by the respray?) They do go for that much but yes - you would want a very nice example of an 81 280 for that kind of money. (of course, my 280 is priceless and not for sale ever thankyou)

Hope this info helps - I'll post that URL and a couple of thoughts once I've had some sleep. (I'm confined to bed with bloody pnuemonia and have to get 5 shots tomorrow :(( that will teach me to spend all night changing water pumps )

3-4 grand should find you an ok example privately, 5-6 at the dealers. I would try tradingpost.com.au and searching for 280zx under each state heading, get together a list of the cars and the prices and get a better idea of the values.

What Rust?

As promised...

This car was going for under $2500 private sale in Victoria a week or so ago. The ad is now gone from Trading Post so it's probably sold, but worth a look at the kind of quality you can get for the price.

Thanks for that... its a private sale by the way. I'm yet to have the car checked by the RAC ( insert whatever it is over east) but i'll come back with details on shocks/transmission/clutch/ etc.

liebl, In my opinion $6200 seems a bit steep for a 280ZX, even if the engine has been rebuilt. Where abouts WA did you find this offer? If you are looking to spend that kind of money, there was a 240Z for 7grand in Canning Vale. I went to see the car for a mate, and while the car wasnt perfect nick, it ran fine and had a short ratio gearbox and hand throttle (Im not sre but I think this is part of a limited edition). I'd buy it myself if I had seven bigones. The advert for this car is in last weeks quokka.
