Almost time to install my carbs...
Hi everyone -
I am just about ready to start installing my Triple Dellorto carbs. i've read through the book "how to build and powertune weber and dellorto dcoe/dhla carbs" and it's been very helpful except for one thing. it doesn't mention anything about straight six's except for the jag e-type! all the rest are four bangers! i've searched high and low for people who are running these carbs, but all i can find are webers and mikuni's. i found them once in a while on 510's and the such, but never on a Z. looks like i'm in somewhat uncharted territory. anyway, here's the game plan as far as hardware goes:
Fuel pump: Holley Red 97gph at 7 psi (will be used with a regulator set at approx 3.5 psi)
Carbs: DHLA 40
Intake: Cannon "long runner"
anyone have suggestions as far as choke/aux. venturi size as well as jetting? the jets and chokes in there look like they should work, but i'm not sure... i'm going to try what's free first (what they came with...), but anyone know of a "good" setup? thanks!
P.S. -
is it that hard to pull enough vaccuum out of this set up? is it worth even hooking up the vac. advance to my distributor?

Hey, did you ever find help for your Dellortos? I'm considering buying a triple set of the DHLA's, but like you, I can't find any complete docs. I'm also having a problem finding the Cannon intake for a reasonable price. Did you have to go with different chokes, jets, etc.??
Do you have any suggestions? Anything you found useful would be much appreciated.
Thanks!

Dellorto carbs
Is your engine new or in good running condition?
If your timing is right and the carbs are tuned and syncronized, you do not need the chokes hooked up, they will only fludd your engine if it is stock. The chokes are usually used on modified engines with high compression, and radical cams to help aid in start up.
On a stock engine, the compression and cam s are so mild it isn't needed.
If you need any help setting it up, feel free to contact me.

Hey there Dozer171. I set up my 240 about 4 months ago with Dellorto 40mm, Mallory pump and 1.5psi. I got my setup info from a racing group out of England (Eurocarb Ltd. at 0118 943 1180 www.dellorto.com). I also rebuilt them with the help of the same book you used. I would only use factory needles during rebuilding thought because the rebuild kits I got from CB Performance have aftermarket needles that don't allow full adjustment of the floats. For my 280 engine Eurocarb recommended 32 chokes, 135 main jets, 55 idle jets and 200 air jets. However, the car won't make it through emmisions here in Arizona (see my post). I went down to 120 main jets and it is still a bit rich, but runs great.
Don't hook up the chokes on the carbs. If you pump them about six times the car will fire up fine.
Now if I could just get it to pass emmissions.....
