Ask who ever is going to paint the color about spray can primer. It is not a good base. Spray can paint contains propellants, usually propane that don't adhere well to metal. Your paint will peal off sooner or later. A painter will probably tell you to sand it all off. Don't shoot the messenger!:fxloc:

im just doing it to get rid of the rust for now its totally temporary, when i get deployed to iraq, its going to my friends shop in amarillo texas, its getting some body work done, front air dam side skirts, rear skirt, keyless entry, take off the handles and key holes, redo the interior, new custom dash. new seats and everything. then the l28 is coming out, im dropping a LS7 C5R block. 427 long block forged from the ground up, 639,639 lift cam 112 114 duration, LS7 heads ported and polished, coated long tube with 1 7/8 inch primarys, forged turbo 350 tranny, 9 inch rear end, im going to have the rear wheel buckets cut, so i can tuck 345's in it, a 4000 stall and slap stick. chassis supports k member new a arms, a chute, and hopbars. im goin for a record. his friend in texas put 668/673 on just motor alone. and im also going a 350 duel stage, menthonal injected. its going to be painted a rusty/burnt/sunset orange. with a small cowl inducted hood.

FYI... not all rattle can primer is crappy. Make sure it's "Self Etching" metal/auto body primer & you will be okay.

Another FYI... priming over rust WON'T stop the rust... even if you have ground out the rust to where it doesn't LOOK orange. Rust will come back unless removed completely.

do remove it completly i sand until all i see is bare metal.

You can get rid of surface rust by sanding... but if there are rust pits left, it's not gone.

There are a few chemical solutions to pitted rust areas that turns the rust in to a sandable product and prevents it from coming back. . .Zero-Rust? i cant remember it now but i'll come to me
