75 280z dies sometimes

I have owned this 280 since 1993 and have never had a problem like this before. I left it parked for 6 years while I was in Alaska! Probably mad at me. Every now and then this car will leave me stranded somewhere for a while. I just keep it in the garage and do not drive but once a week to run the fluids. Anyway, when it dies it acts like it is flooded. It will turn over and every now and then will fire and sputter only to die again. When I leave it over night and come back it starts right up! A couple times it has died on me as I was sitting at a traffic light. I have heard about a "fuel modulator" is this possible?

I believe the "fuel modulator" you speak of is the Fuel Pressure Regulator. Have you checked your fuel pressure? Was the car started at all during those 6 years you were gone?

EDIT... Also, wecome to ZDriver yo!

I just got back from the gas station where it is sitting and it started after it cooled down. It ran really rich and coughed alot. As soon as I let off the gas it died. I got it to start again, ran rough and then cleared up after holding 2500 rpms. Let off the gas and put it in reverse and it died again. This time, I guess because it was at temperature again it would not start. What the &*($&

sounds like a loose connection on the air flow meter thats what caused my 1983 280zx n.a to drive fine then die right away right in the middle of traffic... how embarssing !

If EFI check for water leaks above all your connections. I had a leak in my old '76 that eroded what I believe is an oxygen sensor, right below one of the water lines. It would run fine while cold but after heating up it would sputter and die.:fripper:
