to 4bbl or not....

been getting mixed signals.... anyone with a 4 barrel conversion on any l6, good, bad, ugly, recommend or not..... just getting sick of 4 million vac lines on my 260 and want to simplify the matter without turning my car into sloth.... thanks....bob

I've never run the setup on my Z, but I did talk to a couple different guys who did, and were not happy with it. I know one guy went back to the SU's, and was very happy with them.

I've heard the same thing many times. I have also heard a few people who were happy with it. Maybe they never had their car running with the SUs so they don't know what the true performance potential is.. ? :p

well.... i decided to stick with the 72 su's i already have. now, as long as i don't have an aneurism trying to tune them right....

carb conv.

I have it on my 74, once I got some of the bugs worked out, I really like it. The SU's gave me fits, now it runs like a bat outta hell.

too much carburetor, poor fuel and air atomization especially with the L-6 intake, your end cylinders wont get the same mixture as the middle ones.. your heading for trouble, dont listen to your ghetto friends, they obviously dont know anything about what they're telling you. The 4 barrel conversion is a joke!

hey, you there 77 turbo, was that a city crack i just heard? i'm from upstate, redneck.my ghetto friends told me to get a honda.

4 barrel

The 4 barrel set up sucks!
#1 & 6 cylinders run lean and 3 & 4 run too rich. If you rally want carbureted performance attach a set of Triple Webers. Wow! even on a stock good running engine, you can expect a 20-30% increase in HP over the SU carbs, and 35-40% over 260Z Hitachi's.
But If You have The stock 260Z carbs, I think you would really appreciate the increased performance you will get with SU carbs out of a 72 240Z, If in good condition or rebuilt, you can expect great performance, good fuel economy, and a much cheaper price tag than Webers.

4bbl or not? YES!!

I have just installed a 4 bbl in my 260 and I love it. I would however recommend using the 4bbl manafold from arizona z car .com, it drops down in the front and allows you to place the 4bbl the right way, 1 port to the first 3 and 1 port to the rear 3 cyl. Most likely your 4bbl will have vacumm secondaries. I am using a clifford 4bbl intake with a Holley 390cfm carb. The clifford intake I am not to thrillrd with. Both primary jets set in the front of the manafold so at low rpm only the first 3 cyl. are getting anything to drink and when you mash the throttle it hesitates real bad! But once the second's kick in she hals but. Make sure you knoe what you know what your compression is in your motor, carbs like high compression. If I were you then I would go with the arizona 4bble intake (280.00 I think) and the holley 390cfm (400.00) Make sure to get the linkage kit with the intake manafold.
Hope I could be of some help

4bl

I set up 2 Z with holley's I they run great and I run 600's. They are not an out of the box application. To each his own, I have had tripples, both 40's and 50 mm. The Holley plain revs quicker. Both drag Z and street Z have Holleys. Of course its easy to slap SU's back on and have it perform, but compared to what? I have been playing with these cars for nearly 15years now. I have set up 350v-8 z's, a 400 small block z, straight 6, and am now playing with turbo's. Its all good. I'm in Houston, I'll give you a ride and make you a believer.

You use a 600cfm!?!?!?!

I had a 600cfm on my car when I bought it and had to go to a 390. The 600 was to much for the application I was running. I just got the 390 tunned in right, well I had to play with the timming and idle speed. I still have the 600 sitting in a box in the garage. Hey man here is my e-mail address, JamesTravis@Bellsouth.net. I would like to converse more on what you are doing and mabey get some pointers.
