sorry about the brief post above, but you need to get the right one for it to work. The is a write up in the z car garage (sorry can't rember the url) that tells you which on you need. I think its different for different stuff. As LOki said, definately go aftermarket computer if you can afford it. Also keep in mind that the F.I engines seem to give a lot of problems (just the gist of all the posts I've read) so it might be better for you to go carbs, but it's completely up to you

Dose it take long to change a carb?

I may get a EFI just to experiment, then later on decide on getting a SU carb.

My engine fired up 4 times in a row, then died out. The battery was new. What do you think the problem is?

Changing carbs is not a difficult job but would take you several hours if you haven't done it before.

If your 260Z is stock then it has an E88 head. The 280Z FI will not bolt up to this head. Oddly enough the L6 FI heads (N42, N47, P79, P90) have the mounting holes for both FI or carb studs but the pre-FI heads (E31-E88) only have the hole patterns for Carbs. The SU's will bolt to the 260Z manifold but will require a SU or custom air cleaner.

Also, the FI system on the ebay does not picture the fuel rail, injectors, AFM, or air cleaner. You may want to make sure you contact the seller and find out what you are getting before you purchase.

Regarding an ignition swap. This is also not a bolt on change, if you change the distributor you are going to need to change the tach or come up with an adapter to provide the appropriate signal to trigger the tach.

Also, I would only change one thing at a time. Makes trouble shooting much easier!

Regarding the problem keeping the car running. Check your plugs. They may be fouled out. Often the car will still start because it gets a full 12volts in the starting circut then it will die shortly after you let the key go back to the on possition becuase it drops to 6volts. If that doesn't help describe what your plugs look like. Wet or dry? White, grey, or black deposits? Do you have flattop carbs now? Does the choke work? Does the starter turn over the engine okay?

Have fun!

Royce

I have found a Unknown Carb, The seller says he thinks it is a 240 su carb, and i think so also, but the botl holes are differen't from the other 240 carbs i have seen. let me get a link of it for you so you can decide if it is a 240 carb or not.

The choke cable is not bolted anywhere, dose someone have a picture of their 260Z showing where the choke cable suppost to be mounted?. The starter motor dose run, but i dont know if it is running strong enough, it may just be barely turning the motor, my AMP gauge twiches alot when i leave the car on, "ON" .

Let me go out and take some pictures of it today and i will get back to you as soon as i can. Thanks again for all the help.
