260z swap

its probably an obvious question, but would it be better to swap a skyline RB20DET or a L28 turbo into a 260Z? Other than the cost differences, which one would have better performance and would be easier to do?

-RB25DET / RB26DETT (skyline motors) would yield the best stock horsepower (290+hp), plus modern engine management. But it would also cost you an arm and a leg unless you have a motor in a junkyard somewhere.

-RB20DET (Nissan 180 / 200sx motor) would give about 220-250hp, and would also be about 40-60lbs lighter then the RB25DET / RB26DETT, but these RB20DET can only get up to about 280-300hp reliably (this is only from what i've heard, tuning mags have taken the block upto 400hp, but i wouldn't trust it as a daily driver at that power); but this will also set you back a fair bit of coin too.

-L28Turbo very cheap, good power (tuneable to 300hp without much trouble), but just as heavy as the RB25/26DET (if not heavier, from the iron heads/etc). But they're everywhere.

All of these motors use stock engine mounts, and tranny mounts, if you change the tranny you may need to shorten the drive shaft, and if you switch a carb to FI, you'll need to get an FI Gas tank (for the fuel return line).

It all comes down to cost, and what you're looking to get out of it.

Yeh well thats what I was thinking, just getting the L28 turbo, because they are fairly common, but its just I saw an RB20DET (r32) with tranny (half-cut) for about US$1300 (AU$2400) in good condition, but seeing as though the L28 would come out cheaper and would be easier to tune, i think Ill just keep an eye out for one of them. Thanx
