260Z with 1982 ZX motor question
While I was in college I drove a 260Z, sold it for a Mazda MX-6 and have regretted getting rid of the Z ever since. I have come across one, the price is right, but it as a 1982 280 ZX motor and transmission in it with the 260 carbs. The owner says it runs terrible. My question is will this swap work with the carbs? I really want to get another 260, but I don't want to purchase a big head ache. My orginal 260 had terrible carb problems, but I thought it was a little more cool with those big pots hanging off the side. Any thoughts would be appreciated,

Did you ask if it ever ran good after the motor swap? Did it just recently take a dive to crappy running? Who did the swap? Did he ever sync the carbs? The 260z carbs are the least desired / effective of the Z dual carbs. You could swap on a set of 240z carbs, or run fuel injection on that motor. |

Well, The gentleman is asking $100 for the car, with a clear title so........ It is actually in pretty decent shape, there is the normal rust in the rear wheel wells, but the frame is good. I guess what I was really concerned with was the 260 Carbs would be so small that they might create an over lean condition and burn the motor up. But, at $100 I'm probably going to take a chance and pick it up. I can get $50 for it at the scrap yard. |
Id find a set of round top 240Z carbs. I'm betting thats most of your problems. The 260Z and 73 240Z had flat top carbs which run like crap

the carbs are probably just turds. replace them or rebuild them, but they will run a 280 motor, not that much more fuel is needed for .2 liters difference in displacement...
