240Z
hey all- I am new, and just found out about this car. I am sort of looking for a new car ( i have a 1993 dodge intrepid ES right now, Really nice and fast) but anyways i am just wondering about the Z... (1st gen 1970 through 1975 preferably) which out of those years is the best to get?
* What are major problems that the Z usually encounters * Are these cars reliable? * What kind of gas mileage does a Z get * Fast, alright, slow? * Mods most people do to this car * Average insurance costs? * anything else i need to know? THANKS A TON :D -austin reed- |

Re: 240Z
first gen is 70-78, everything except for minor cosmetic interior and exterior changes, engine and drivetrain, is identical. suspension is SLIGHTLY different, but all interchangeable.
-major problems? rust is probably the biggest issue. -reliable? yes -gas mileage? i can get 22mpg on hwy with a 4 speed and 3.54 gears. -is it fast? by 70s standards, yes. today's standards, no. it's quick and fun to drive. -mods people usually do to the cars? most typical is dropping a 2.8 liter motor from a 280z and a 5 speed into a 240z. some put small block v8s in Zs. some swap in skyline motors, buick gn motors. bolt on mods usually include a good set of triple carbs on an extrude honed manifold, hotter cam, aftermarket header, exhaust. e31 head is also desired because of its compression. 70-74 240 and 260 Z cars come with 2 x2barrel carbs, 75 and up are fuel injected. ------------------------------ '73 240z '99 neon R/T |
Re: 240Z
One slight correction; 70-74 (US) & 70-77 (AUS) cars came with 2x single barrel side-draft SU-type carburettors, not twin-barrel.
