1978 280z Turbo?
 

is it possable? i really hope it is, because i want a turbo engine, because im not feelin a stock L28 right now :(

and how much would it cost for a turbo or a twin turbo conversion?

Of course it is possible! Looks at the rides section of this web page. I'm sure you have already seen the conversion done.

Best way is to use the entire engine and turbo setup. Don't try to put on a turbo onto your old L28 n/a block.

Are you planning on paying a shop to do the conversion? Or are you doing it yourself? It could cost you 4-5 thousand for a shop to do all the work.

You can buy a sweet 280ZX turbo for less than that. But really, most parts of the US you can find a turbo parts car for $1000 or maybe less. There is hardly nothing to fabricate to get it all to fit in. So it won't cost you all that much more. Of course, that also depends on how pretty you want the engine.

It´s not so hard to turbocharge a n/a engine. All you need is a turbo, a turbo fueller and a little time.

You forgot Paitience Fredrik :-P, You also have to consider the condition of the engine you have aswell as the compression on it. Also the turbo ZX had the turbo engine head P90 - P90A. These were best for turbo charging.
Bleach do you remember my white 260z 2+2 that was written off and you wanted to post pics of it on your webpage? Well that had a P90 head and F54 block. Which is a hard find down here in AUS. I wish I could find a Turbo ZX for it's wiring loom, ecu, Fuel Injection setup ,AFM etc etc.... & Turbo Manifold I missed the last one was only $50 on this website.
Bleach do you know what I will need to get my car turbo if I have the block and head and that's it?
Do you also know what components off an NA 280zx or 280z Fuel Injection system can be used on a Turbo L28???
I hear you can use some of the 300zx Turbo components.

By the way how's the Fairlady Z going? I saw the pictures seems interesting. I never knew the Fairlady had an L20 engine.

If you will be satisfied whith 220-250 hp you actually dont need to open the engine at all. The first L28 is possible to turbocharge because of the low compression (8.3:1). If you want to be sure you could replace the pistons and go for the p90 head. But if you want to keep it cheap and simple, just go for it!
This is of course not how the pros do it, but if you make sure the engine gets all the gas it needs(this is the important part) the pistons wont brake and you will have lots of fun for a small amount of $

You know, I've been thinking...I've already got a turbo engine fully built up P90(A) head, but the block needs to be gone through. I've been considering just throwing the turbo exh. manifold, turbo, and related lines and parts on my NA engine and just going for it. I've already got larger than stock injectors, adjustable fuel pressure regulator, and will be installing a Super AFC as soon as I can get my hands on a wiring diagram for a '77 280Z. I figure even if I blow my current engine I still have the turbo engine that I can throw in there...but until then, why not just have a little fun with the engine that's in there?
