1/4 mile time???

I recently bought another 260z and I'm in the process of making a few simple changes over the next week before it goes in for paint. I was wondering what kind of 1\4 mile time i could expect??? My changes are as follows, early 240 SU's, K&N filters, headers to a 2.25"/2.5" pipe and high flow muffler, new electric fuel pump, already has elec ignition.
Also not sure about the pipe size to go for, ie 2.25" vs 2.5"??? I've had a 2.5" in another Z and was wondering if there is a noticable difference in sound or distribtion of power between the two diameters in a relatively stock motor? Also, if I add a resonator to it, is there a noticable loss in power?Has anyone experienced problems in tyre wear after a 2 inch drop?
Thanx for any answers!

Re: 1/4 mile time???

If I could just answer the resonator question, I made up a 2.25 inch exhaust for my old L28 motor years ago, it was straight through with just the rear muffler. The exhaust note had a very distinct crackle to it at around 2500 rpm, and as I was working night shift, felt sorry enough for my neighbours to try to shut it up a bit. I fitted a small straight through resonator and not only did the sound improve but I could drive up the hill home in a gear higher than before, the low end torque increased and the top end power was not effected at all.

Re: 1/4 mile time???

I run a 2.5" DynoMax exhaust on my 260Z, and I can tell you the car has a wonderful bark. One of my friends has a 2.25" jobby in his car and I tell you the extra quarter inch makes a difference. The downside is that my car has very little torque below 2000rpm. But hell, I get some good grunt right at the top, and the engine revs very freely.

BTW, if you get the 2.5" system, be careful because the mongrel who installed mine forgot to put a bracket in there, so the bit just before the silencer hits what I think is part of the diff and makes the most annoying rattle at idle.

hmmm thanx guys-I've been thinking about the resonator thing for a while now and I'm leaning towards the 2.5" seeing it will give me the right note and add a small resonator to it to keep the noise down and retain a bit of that bottom end torque.
I recently met guy who owns a very neat 240z,(spent $20,000 already), and rather than a muffler he had 2 resonators added and it looked neat and sounded great. The second one sat where the muffler normally sits.

hmmm as we talked about the other day, does'nt the fuel tank get in the way on the RHS for this type of set up.

Yes, it is an issue with the exhaust. You can have it done, but on my 280ZX it looks like the fuel pump is really in the way. You'll have to get creative with your car to run a right side exhaust without scraping the ground.
