"fuel" light?

I've had 3 280Z's 76,77&78. All of them have had a "fuel" red idiot light. Does any one know what its for? I've studied all the wiring diagrams and manuals I have and I don't see any mention of it. Thanks.

Re: "fuel" light?

I've also run out of gas. The light never came on. Thats what I'm curious about, should it have or is it for something else.

Re: "fuel" light?

You might want to check your fuel gauge sensor because those things usually go out too. Had to fix it on my 510, dunno if it's the same, but if it's like a 71 510 setup, the sensor's in the rear on the bottom side of the tank, you gotta drain it first. Pull it out and look to see if the wire is broken. Easy replace, just a bit time consuming and not mention smelly!

Re: "fuel" light?

It'll still work, just that it'd read a bit off. My 510 was reading a 1/4 tank to 3/8 full when I ran out of gas. Happened while I was pulling out of an intersection at school. Pretty embarassing, but oh well.
