ZNeed help with 240 auto to man tranny swap
I have a 73 240 with a bad auto tranny that I want to swap a 71 240 engine and 4 speed into. I have never done this before. Is it a bolt in swap? Is there any cutting needed for the clutch cylinders? The 71 stuff would come from a complete parts car that is available. I don't want to get in over my head so any help is appreciated! Thanks!!

I put a '78 5-Speed in my '71. It bolted right in, using the '71's crossmember. The manual trans will bolt onto the '71's crossmember. It WILL bolt right it, and you can use your existing driveshaft.
You will need the clutch and brake pedal from a Z the SAME year. The pedals from a 280Z won't fit correctly. You'll find that the clutch master cylinder will bolt right on. There is a punch-out for where it goes. I had to do some custom hydraulic line work, but you have a donor car so you can probably use the line from that.
Good luck!

They basically fit up. Just remeber to keep the cross member from the 4spd on. It is different from the auto. The hardest part is installing the clutches master cylinder and lines. The car comes with all the fittings already so your set. Bassically plug and play.
