wont move
I have pretty much completed the engine swap in my 240z (260z motor) with a 5 speed I bought from a forum member.
fired it up and could not get it to move the clutch is not engaging. I used the throwout sleeve and arm that came with the trans, put a new throwout bearing too. bled the clutch cylinder and slave and I see the slave moving when someone depresses the clutch. the actuator rod that was with the old transmission was way too long, I used the one that came with the slave cylinder. It was difficukt to get it in there. I wonder if thd actuator rod could be too long. Does anyone know how long the rod should be for a 5 speed? I used the clutch and pressure plate from the old 4 speed as it appeared to be in decent shape. not sure where else i could have gone wrong. any ideas? thanks, craig |
I think I may have found the answer to my own question. I found a thread elsewhere that indicates I needed to use the throw out sleeve from the original 4 speed transmission as I retained the 4 speed clutch and pressure plate and the 5 speed throw out sleeve is longer and is preventing clutch engagement. Sounds reasonable to me.

Should have equipped myself with this information before I put it all back together...live and learn!

Thanks for coming back with the update. Somewhere in the back of my head I thought there was a thread with the solution to your problem. I couldn't find it (have to admit I didn't search very long) but I'm glad you did. Let us know how it turns out.
