turbo apps

Does anyone know if I can put an aftermarket turbo on a '77 280z w/ stock heads. I know I'd have to run an intercooler and I plan on putting a MSA 260/260 cam and complete valve train upgrade w/ 6-2 headers and 2 1/2" exhuast. besides that what else would I have to do to pull it off. Any help on this would be greatly appreciated.

p.s. don't want to do v8 conversion.

you can, but it's not worth it. get the p54 turbo block and rebuild it.

What year was the p54 block in?

technically that was a ghetto supercharger

zr8d: you want a block from an 82-83 280zx turbo. 81 doesn't seem to be the desired version

now about the tranny. I've been told the stock tranny in the '77 is really a 4 speed and 5th and reverse share the same tree. so is it better to go w/ the later 5 speed or a T-5.

If your gonna change tranny go with the T-5. I noticed you live in idaho where? I am in Chubbuck.

Right next to Pocatello. look into any 82-83 turbo ZX,s for a T-5 I am pretty sure.

well, sign me up. my z isn't anything to look at so far but, give it a couple of years and it will be one of the pretiest and fastest out there.

I was under the assumption that the P90 head has been the preffered one, and it's only available on the '81 motor. Am I mistaken? Unfortunately, the '81 were only automatics.

Hey zr8d I will soon be like you, a z owner and lovin' it. I am buying a 260z that has been sitting in a schoolteachers driveway for 3.5 to 4 yrs. It has got a performance camshaft, 2.5in. exhaust, dual webers, winow louvers, light surface rust and ugly black paint
