Tranny all messed up

I went to finally drive the 240 today, and when I go to take off the car just doesn't want to go. It boggs like its in 3rd gear, and then after about 2000rpm, the car tskes off like it should. Its an auto tranny on my 1972 240z. Is there anyway to fix this? Maybe a bad filter? Or the tranny just screwed?
