anyone got a easy way of finding top dead center? 77 280Z 2 plus

If by yourself you can click the starter with the diz cap off and get the rotor to the approx 11 o'clock position. Then turn off the key, put it in 4th with the brake off and push/pull to get the timing mark at zero on the damper pulley.

thats one way to do it, i usually pop off nubmer 1 spark plug and the valve cover wait til all number 1 cam lobes arent touching the valves then have a budy rotate the crank slowly till i see the piston come to a stop at the top.

You can just pop the plugs out, and rotate it by hand on the pulleys. Not hard when the compression is gone. Or, at least it shouldn't be. But, you will need to determine if you are on TDC of the compression stroke for the #1 cylinder, or Exhaust. For electrical timing, this does not matter. But, if you are doing some valve maintenance, you will see it anyway, by which valves are loose.
