stupid drain plug.
 

I'm getting irritated. Tried to remove the drain plug on my oilpan. Busted one of my sockets on it. what's up. Did any of the 70-83 have drain plugs have strange threads. Anything I can do to loosen this?

ah, just googled stuck bolt. lol, slap myself in the head. Friend says he has loctite that'll remove it and if that doesn't work I have a torch. Nvm for now

Busted a socket on it?!?! Get better sockets. :D Spray some good penetrating oil on it & let it soak for a while.

If the bolt is that tight the PBblaster is a good suggestion. Also I would recommend using 1/2" drive sockets (they are stronger), and use a breaker bar with an extention. That should do it and I wouldn't use a torch unless you want a major problem. I broke a 3/8" 14mm socket on the bolt holding the rack & pinon in, and then used 1/2" socket with no problem. The 3/8" was a Craftsman so you can see the bigger the socket the stronger. Good Luck and I hope the rest of Christmas was better.

Use leverage. you'll get it.

sigh, Tried a stronger socket and it's stripping it. I'll try that pbblaster tommorrow. Sigh, wasted hours just trying to change my oil, lol and I just realized I bought 5w30. I think I need 10w30 and this motor has a little blowby I believe so using a thin oil is a bad idea.

thats cuz u also used the wrong size socket on it at at sum point if it strips more bust out the good old monkey wrench then buy a new drain plug

Has your engine been sitting in the bottom of the ocean for a couple years? It shouldn't be this hard to loosen the oil drain bolt. Is there a lot of rust around the plug? Are you remembering "leftie loosie... rightie tightie" ???

it's not that far fetched. It happens more than you probably think. 2nd on that, make sure you have the right size socket, enouhg leverage, and you're turning it the right way.

I'll try the mokey wrench out after work. See how that does

use a pipe wrench too, the are an all size fit! and at some quicky lube places they use impact guns to tighten the plug, usually screwing the thing up, either the threads or the head of the bolt, get your engine good and hot first as well, it will help with the removal

Just Be Carefull Of The Hot @ss Oil When You Do Get It Out That Stuff Will Make You Not Happy.

I do a lil bit, but you want it to be somewhat hot b/c then it's thinner and more will come out, thus a better oil change.

well yeah i dont let it get cold... only so that if the oil splashes on you cause it will... theres no burnage... only ooch thats kinda hot.. or very warm... then it almost feels good. lol
