rough first gear an loud bang noise?

well i just got my 77 280z an when you take off first gear is sorta weird. well basically1-4 (every gear) sorta rattles an i have no idea what it is i dont know if its the clutch slipping but it doesnt seem that way or just motor itself and also when im driving if i hit the gas very quickly it seems that you can almost hear the differential transfer power cause there is a loud bang noise does anyone have any suggestions to this ? oh that an maybe does anyone know how i would change tranny to 5 speed? what tranny 2 use an anything like that... thanks for anyhelp

the BANG is probably worn bushing in the diff mount or possibly a U-joint, to me that sound you describe doesnt make sense (rattles) but if i had to guess anything id say throw out bearing. and ummm.... just put in a 5 speed. lol. its easy as that, any S30 or S130 (late 280Z and all 280ZX) trannies are the same, same motor, similare chassis, so there for same tranny. just get one from a zx and put it in. not rocket science on changing to a 5speed ;) and here you think its going to be all hard or something. lol.

I also have a Horible bang when I shift gears hit the gas or stop. I first thought it was the shocks but later found that is was the Lower rear controler arm bushing. When on the jack i could move the wheel back and forth creating the sound.

I just ordered the complete bushing set from black dragon $180.00

is the wheel wobbling? check your wheel bearings. also you half shafts and diff.

You can get them at NAPA autoparts but it comes out to about $8.00 per piece. Go to www.Blackdragonauto.com look up suspention bushings. I got the complete set that is complete rear end, front end, and rack&pinion for $180.00 makes it about $3.00 per piece.

If one is bad the others are not far behind.

Eric
