new pistons!

Today I dropped off my new .020"-over flattop pistons at the machine shop to get my block bored out to match. I was surprised to see when I took the old pistons/rods/rings assembly out that both compression rings looked like chrome. I was fairly certain no one had re-ringed this motor in the past, but I thought the stock rings were iron, or at least the second ring was iron? Odd.

Anyway, does anyone know what type of rings come with the ITM flattop set from Vic Brit? Looked like moly, but I'd find that surprising given the reasonable price for the set (with pistons, pins, and rings). Any info is appreciated.
thanks,
Dave

Stock rings are chrome(or something very similar) That's why the L series engine last as long as they do.

Not sure what rings the pistons you ordered come with. From other posts I have seen, they either come with chrome/molly or cast iron.

Going to make the z club meeting tonight? We should be veiwing the video of the last day at 2nd creek raceway for the z club.

Hi Darrel,
Sorry, couldn't make it. Hope to in the next few months, though, with my completed 280 Z. Progress is steady, though of course never as fast as one might want.

Hoping to get all the bolts and hardware for the front suspension wired for the plater's tonight. I finally got a set of numbered punches at McGuckin's last weekend, and I have some sheet metal laying around so I can tag everything and not lose track of what goes where after it's all plated. Ron at H.O. said it'd take about a week to press the new pistons to the old rods and bore the block, after I get him the new rod bolts (gotta order a set today... ARP or OEM? Hmmmm.).

Sorry I've been such a slacker about getting in touch with you. Between work, the Z, etc. I haven't had a spare moment. Hope to talk to you soon.
thanks,
Dave

If you're still looking for the 240 hubs, there is a '73 at pull n save in Aurora. The wheels are still on it and it should still be there for another week. I don't know if you ever go out to pns, but it's a very cheap source for parts when they get them in.

Give me a call sometime to at least touch base. Jim, the guy with the dark silver 260 will be moving in the next couple of months. I need to get with him to see how his transmission is doing. We might have to pull it out and open it up again. He might want to do it before he moves. At the very least he wants to check out the short throw shifter I made.

Stuff like this I usually pm so i won't clutter up the board.
