Need Help!! 76 280z Wont Start!!
 

I Really Need Help I Got A 1976 280z I Put A Fuel Pump On It And New Injectors,fuel Filter And Starter But I Cant Get It To Start It Cranks Over Fine And Gets Spark I Pulled The Fuel Hose From The Fuel Filter And Fuel Gushes Out Nicely I Dont Understand Why Its Not Starting Every Now And Then Sputters And Acts Like It Wants To Start Could It Be Something In The Ignition Or Some Kind Of Relay Or Maybe The Airflow Meter I Dunno Anyone Have These Problems Before Or Anyone Have Any Ideas What It Could Be Any Help Appreciated Thanks

After looking at your list of things replaced, It is more than likely you have already changed your plugs. If you haven't I would reccomend it even if they are pretty new and do spark. Last January my 77 would NOT start no matter what I tried. Good fuel, air, and everything but it would not start. The plugs were less than 5 months old, so I ddn't even consider them the problem. The did have a spark, but were fouled up enough that they didn't work. I replaced them with some new Autolite plugs and it fired right up first try.

their pretty new i took them out and they dont look used at all but i will buy some new ones since their not that exspensive any other sugestions

well i got it to start but but only for like 30 secs it will start right up but slowly dies i step on the gas and it revs up but after a few secs it starts poping through the intake backfireing its not blowing any smoke black or white etc any help would be appreciated thanks

If they're OLD, you'd be surprized what a new dizzy cap, rotor and plug wires will do. You might try checking the wire(s) coming out of the dizzy that go to the coil and??? I've seen two situations; One, where the copper breaks inside the insulation, ie: the wire looks o.k. on the outside but no connection / bad connection inside, and two, the insulation gets worn thin, or a small crack, and shorts to the housing.

A real good way to tell if your plug wires / dizzy cap are bad....... try starting it in the dark, you'll see an interesting light show if they're bad :) .

my cap,rotor, and plugs are all new the wires look pretty old but their not arching anywhere i tried the daylight test when you cant wait till it gets dark just grab the wires and see if they shock the daylights out of ya lol seriously if it is the wires must be internal any other suggestions ill change the wires tomorrow and see

Check to make sure the Air Flow Meter is plugged in. If so, remove the plug and clean up the contacts really good. Sounds to me like you will find your problem lies in that area...

All the above are excellent things to try. Here's one more easy thing to check. That has all the marks of late S30 EFI fuel starvation. Easy test: Get a can of starting fluid. Have a friend continuously spray it in the intake (with the air filter out) while you crank and run the engine. Don't try to rev it or pump the gas. If it starts and runs for a bit (10s of seconds, less than a minute), then the friend should stop spraying the starter fluid. If the car then slowly sputters out and dies, then it means you're getting inadequate fuel. In that case, it could be your fuel pressure regulator, either of the pump relays, or the alternator.

try removing the gas cap mine had a back pressure issue. the cap has a small spring that releases pressure and it was closed shut.

I hope that in the almost 12 years since the thread started, the OP either found a solution or sold the car. LOL
