The quick, but very spendy ways:
You can get an assembly to fit in your existing diff housing. http://www.zcarparts.com/store/merch...ry_Code=PRC02E But that's kind of expensive ($900 for just the assembly) and you really need to have a good driveline shop set it up. or the Quaife diff: http://www.zcarparts.com/store/merch...ry_Code=PRC02D But that's really expensive ($1900 for the part) And most of the online z parts folks have the same or similar items. For less money, a lot of people do the conversion of getting the LSD from a later Z (online or local parts yards) and putting it on their S30, but you'll have to change some parts, potentially driveshaft, mounting pieces, "half-shafts", hubs, etc. depending on your exact setup. Cheaper, but more work. Some folks on here have done that and have very nice setups, hopefully they'll post, too. Dave |
In my opinion, unless your going to race auto-cross, your money will be well spent on other performance upgrades such as ignition, head work, cam, header etc. You can get a R200 differential with 3.9 gear ratio and a five speed from a '81-'82 ZX. Even this is a lot of work but well worth it. Every Z I've ever driven would light both tires in a standing start and bark them in second so no need for the LSD. Buy some nice wide wheels and tires instead you'll need them with the 3.9 gears.

yeah i was looking at subie LSD diffs, either their r160 or a r180. i know a guy with a turbo swapped z that has a r160 and it's held up for years. think of al the weight you could take off a car by going from a r200 to a r160.
i have ended my subaru diff venture cause i got lucky and found the 300zx turbo LSD |
um you want an LSD
trust me, if you drive remotely fast, you want an LSD.... I just had one installed in my 3.9 R200, and it was money well spent... I did however wait till everything else was done... 3.0L stroker, suspension, brakes...ect

Applications: Nissan 240z, Datsun 260, 280, and interchangeable with R160 on the Datsun 510. Non ABS Gear Ratio: 4.08 if interested let me know located soCal |
