Well first of all, I want to say hello to these forums because I am new to it.

I got a 1978 280z just a couple days ago and the keyless entry on it doesnt work.

There is a clicking noise that comes from under the dash whenever I click on the lock/unlock buttons on the remote. Nothing happens but the clicking and it clicks about 5 times.

Does anyone have an idea on what could be wrong?

Seeing as how the 280Z didn't come w/ keyless entry from the factory, nor power locks, it could be one or many possible things.

I would start by checking the relay or brain (the item clicking under the dash). Then check the door lock mechanism, then wiring, and so on.

Does everything else work?

 

Do your headlights/tail lights flash? Might not actually have the keyless locks but a simple alarm

 

The relay seems to be just fine, everything looks connected like it should but i dont know much about it.

All the lights work and it is supposed to lock. I checked inside the door and i is made to be locked by the keyless entry.





Also on the car there are some rust holes in the air intake grille. Is it possible to replace this? and where do you think i can find the part?

OR, if it is too hard to find one, whats the best way to repair it?
