Intake Question please read
 

Ok we all know that the colder the intake air the better because it is denser thus more hp. Now what if You were to take a cold air intake kit that uses pollished aluminumn for piping and wraped thin walled copper tubing around it and plumbed the tubing to your ac compressor thus cooling it like a freezer would this work its only an Idea????? Please let me know what u think :D

you don't want air too cold...and I'm not sure if that would circulate enough air for the intake.

I think the parasitic power loss from the A/C compressor would more than offset any gain from the cooler intake air. Not absolutely sure of that though.

i have been working on a simaler desine. and i have come across a ac compresor that is small and powerfull. it also is 12v. :cool:

Cooling your air is beneficial, but air flowing thru an aluminium pipe isn't going to affect the temp much. . .think of an intercooler. . they use lots of small pipes, like a radiator, with lots of fins so there is a very big surface area for the air to be cooled against. In the aluminium pipe with the copper pipe coiled around, your surface area isn't very big. . .if you consider the points at which the copper pipe contact the aluminium. The aluminium and copper construction, will also take a lot of heat up from the engine bay, making your a/c work harder, and as ChEng stated, the power to run you a/c is going to be more than the power gain from the cool air. You are better off trying to shield your existing air intake piping, and get the filter out in front of your radiator somewhere, where it can get cool air in.
I take it your car isn't turbo'd???. . . .you could use an intercooler with a water spray. ..an intercooler by itself isn't going to do anything, but spray water on it and the evaporative effect would help.
