Thumbs up I put 4:11's in my Z

Heya Z pilots.

I broke yet another stock 3:36/R-180 (160?) Diff in my '72, while drag racin 2 weeks ago.
So we bit the bullet, and went for the near ultimate swap, A subaru R-180 Centre-section!!
The unit came from an automatic car, and was equipped with 4:111's !! and...(heres the best part)
hows fiddy nine bucks sound??!! (CDN) of course.

I was actually there for a set of 3:9's I saw...but the "bug got me, and I commandeered the stiffies instead.

As for the swap itself.... Unbolt the splined "stubbies",. bolt in our "Stub-shafts". and slam it all back in !!
The 1-2-3 gear Acceleration is UNBELIEVABLE !!
(fourth gear is still pretty retarded too!)

PS, theres 2 more 4:11 sets, and no less than 4 (four) 3:9's ,here at my local "pick-a-part". (Kelowna, Canada) How many do ya guys need? hehe

Anyhow...I go Drag racin in the mornin..I'll let ya'll know how it goes.
Best pass (this track) WAS 10:07. ten teens all day
( 9.797 at another track. lower Alt. sea level almost, we go to this track next month!! )

Here goes nuthin. .......

thats great to hear. yea 4:11 is going to be a acceleration beast. might lose some top speed. is it a lsd r180? hope it last you awhile if not u should look into a r200 or r230? hope you do good at the track.

Naw,.. I wish it WAS an LSD, but it isnt.
Ya it IS an acceleration beast now (it was before, now its crazy!)
1st gear is gonzo in a crosswalk, and 1-2 uses up an intersection. wow!

As for the "easy" part,. I couldnt believe how simple this was. I mean really! I actually came onto the idea, by a fella swapping a 240 diff INTO a roo,.. something about the long gears for top speed? anyway,. it worked fer him,..so I gave 'er a shot,.. and WOW, what a difference!

ALL the LSD diff's were gone ( big suprise at 60 bucks each!)
but I'm gonna keep lookin every couple weeks.

We're gonna build a spare unit, just in case I break this one ( I will ), I'll take pics of the swap, and details of the same. ya dont even have to remove the rear cover to swap in our axle-shafts. amazing!

PS. just wait till we bolt up this SC14 toyota-previa Supercharger to her. 15 PSI..here we come!!
