I fixed my tranny!!!

one of the roll pins from the shift rod to the gear selector was in 3 pieces!!! I replaced ALL of the pins and now am waiting on finding a shop to replace the main input shaft bearing...sort of wobbly... I tried to take it off with a length modified gear puller...lets just say the bearing was bending the tool and it would pop off before it would pull the bearing...and that was a lot of force...puting the tranny back together will be a breeze once I get that bearing replaced...but I now need to order my bigger wheels and tires before my Z is driveable... for my bigger brakes of course... :D

If you heat the bearing up to about 200 degrees it will come off easier. Same with putting the new one on.

but I have the problem of getting the input shaft disconnected from the rest of the tranny...I have pulled the bearing off the "countershaft" as the haynes manual says and the circlipfor the countershaft gear but the countershaft removeable gear would not budge...and the whole gearbox will not fit in the oven...if I could just get the input shaft off then I could get it easy...I could take it into welding class and use the 200* electrode rod oven and a smaller gear puller...the one I am using now is 10in. and made of 1/8in. steel...it bends pretty easy...

You can use a small propane torch. Try to just heat the inner race of the bearing. It only takes a few seconds, it expands faster than the shaft. You got the bell housing off right? The gear the imput shaft mates with comes off with it. Then it will be easier to get the bearing off.

well there are only 2 pieces that are the whole transmission cover...the bellhousing and gearbox cover are one and the same... and yes I did get the bellhousing off...
