Camaro T5 trans swap

Is it possible to use the Camaro T5 tranny with the L series motor. I know the bell housing is unboltable. So does that mean you can put a ZX T5 bellhousing on it and install with no problems. I have friend with one lying around so I figured I would ask.

To my knowledge, that is supposedly do-able, but I've yet to hear first-hand of anyone getting a hold of the right bell-housing. It's always someone on a message board saying "I knew this guy who had a friend who did it". Don't forget that the transmission is the least of your worries. The driveshaft and rear flange are big challenges, and you'll likely want a different shifter. Plus, there's not a lot in the way of resources on this (Borg Warner sold the rights to the T5 and they're fairly unpleasant if you ask them questions about T5's). For a really good summary on the whole conversion, check out this guy's site:

Besides, he has some nice photos of his 240Z on there.
It would be a fun experiment though, if you have the money and time (wish I did).
cheers,
Dave

With no problems... would be a problem. :D

The imput splines (that go into the clutch) are different length and # of splines. The gear ratio's prolly aren't the best for the L-Series either. I think you'd have enough problems that it wouldn't be worth it... but thats just my opinion.

Thanks for the info, I have heard of this being done. But it leads to the friend of a friend thing too.
