Air Flow Sensor

I just bought a 1978 280z for 900 dollars she needs new carpet, paint and two rust spots fixed thats it. but we came into another problem the air flow sensor does not work at all and we dont know why, so i came across one that says its will fit a 280z FED i dont think mine is a federal emission car and i know its not a cali car, if i buy the meter will it work with my car? if not can someone point me to where i can get one that will work that i dont have to sell my kidney for?

Before you blow several hundred on a new / reman AFM, have you tried repairing yours? (https://www.zdriver.com/forums/240z-...our-afm-15277/).

The carbon track and spring are the main possible problems. Adjust the sweeper to hit a better patch of the carbon, and reset the spring tension... those two things will usually fix AFM probs.

If you still have probs, grab a spare from a local junk yard (usually $10-$50), like a Pick N Pull or Car-Part.com--Used Auto Parts Market

But to answer your question, you can use CA emissions parts on a FED car, it's the CA car still in California that must use CA emissions parts. :D

i wanted to fix it but found no how tos or anything and i live in a small town surrounded by corn an beans and bordered by a river, the only thing the junk yards around here might have is tractor parts.

but i will look into the how to rebuild your afm

just tried it and i hooked it up to the connector and grounded it sat it to where i could see it started it and nothing happened it didnt move or even wiggle at all.

The AFM doesn't actually move on its own at all if you did not have it connected to the intake. It is just a door that gets pushed back when air gets pulled through it to tell the ECU how much gas to inject into the cylinders. I know because I am having problems with mine. :012:
Does the car turn over?
How do you come to the conclusion that it was bad?
